The winner was Aisbois, an open-minded duo Petteri Berg and Kuisma Hurtig from Rovaniemi Petteri Berg and Kuisma Hurtig — whose company utilizes offcuts and rejected products generated in Kontio’s production and turns them into furniture and design items.

From November 4, 2025, to February 22, 2026, the prestigious Petit Palais Museum of Fine Arts in Paris is hosting a major retrospective dedicated to Finnish painter Pekka Halonen (1865–1933). Entitled“A Hymn to Finland”, the exhibition celebrates Halonen’s poetic depictions of Nordic nature, particularly his iconic snow-filled landscapes, and explores his artistic journey influenced by Parisian avant-garde movements such as Japonism and Synthetism.

Kontio has contributed to this exceptional cultural event by providing custom log panels for the scenography, ensuring an authentic Finnish atmosphere within the museum’s halls. Kontio Delivers Its First Apartment Building to Germany/Kontio

Independent airtightness measurements conducted by Vertia Oy, an independent Finnish building testing and inspection company, confirm that Kontio log buildings achieve consistently excellent results. The latest verified results were published in March 2026, based on a comprehensive set of third‑party measurements carried out across completed buildings in Finland.

The measurements show average values ofq50 ≈ 0.65–0.66 m³/(m²·h), corresponding to declared values ofq50 0.8–0.9used in official energy calculations. In many cases, the results are close to low‑energy and near‑passive building levels (q50 ≤ 0.6 m³/(m²·h)

The results are internationally applicable, as the strong airtightness performance is based on repeatable log structures, joint details and construction principles that are consistently used in Kontio projects worldwide. These same technical solutions form the foundation of Kontio buildings regardless of location.

The results demonstrate that modern log construction can combine natural materials with high technical performance, delivering energy‑efficient and durable buildings across different markets and climates.

Kontio is introducing Kontio Log Academy, a webinar series designed to inspire architects and construction professionals with fresh insights into modern log architecture. The series explores how this traditional material can meet the demands of contemporary design and sustainable building from small-scale projects to large public spaces.

The first webinar will take place on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 14:00 (online) with the topic: “From Cabins to Campuses: The Evolution of Log Architecture – Case Monio”. Our keynote speaker, award-winning architect Mikki Ristola, will share the story behind the Monio school campus, a prime example of how log construction can transform public architecture into something innovative and sustainable.

The webinars are free of charge and held in English, making them ideal for both international and domestic audiences. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and delivers practical examples and thought-provoking ideas without heavy theory.
